Verified Botswana facts
Create a reversible, constraint-first shortlist in which identity, product evidence, written price, household resilience and a no-borrowing alternative remain separate decisions.
Evidence and limits
Bank of Botswana material supports institutional and consumer-protection context. Bank Gaborone and Stanbic Bank Botswana control their cited product pages. Applicant terms require a current quotation and agreement.
Questions before signing
A familiar name, complete-looking page or fast response can feel like a recommendation while currency, all costs, channel safety and the weaker-month household remainder are still unclear.
Decision worksheet
Define common fields, verify each institution independently, request matched BWP quotations and keep only options that satisfy the borrower's documented needs without filling any blank value.
Write the need and the household stop line
Describe the expense, when it must be paid and the smallest amount that would solve it. State the requested principal in Botswana pula, a preferred duration and a monthly ceiling after housing, food, utilities, transport, healthcare, school costs, existing debt and a modest reserve. Add service needs such as a usable branch or secure remote route. These are borrower constraints, not predictions of eligibility. Record events that cause an immediate stop: unexplained advance payment, unverified beneficiary, missing total repayment or a payment that displaces essentials. Writing these limits before provider names prevents a promotional maximum or attractive example from quietly changing the original purpose.
Confirm the institution before the product
Use the Bank of Botswana's responsible banking information to check the institution relevant to the enquiry. Record the legal or observed name, consultation date, website domain, telephone contact and any proposed payment beneficiary. A consistent identity supports this step only. It does not prove that a personal loan exists for the reader, that a channel serves the reader's location or that approval is likely. If an advert or message supplied the contact, obtain an official contact independently before sharing identity, income or bank documents. An unresolved difference is a reason to pause and ask, not to accuse. Give every candidate the same identity check so that familiarity does not substitute for evidence.
Open one card for each named product
Create one evidence card for the Bank Gaborone personal-loan page and another for the Stanbic Bank Botswana personal-loan page. Capture the exact product name, responsible domain, relevant wording and observation date. Keep the cards separate. A feature, amount range or access statement from one cannot complete the other. A provider page may introduce a product but cannot determine an applicant's rate, approved amount, term, compulsory fees or payment schedule. Put absent values in a questions section instead of writing zero or copying an old figure. If a provider describes more than one loan, use another card. Clear ownership makes later quotations easier to match and prevents an accidental hybrid product.
Request matched quotations in pula
Send each verified institution the same BWP amount, purpose, duration and intended date. Ask the reply to identify the product, contractual currency, financed principal, net amount delivered, repayment frequency, first and final due dates, interest wording, every compulsory fee, insurance, security, late-payment consequences and total payable. Request the validity period. If the provider answers a different amount or term, keep it as another scenario rather than forcing it into the original row. A general, indicative or conditional reply must remain labelled accordingly. Comparable questions do not guarantee matching products; they expose why the answers differ and stop a low monthly figure from hiding a longer or incomplete obligation.
Keep blank costs unresolved
Use a blank field to mean only that responsible evidence has not supplied the value. It does not mean free, unavailable or unsuitable. Do not estimate interest, multiply an instalment without confirming the number of payments, or infer a zero fee from silence. Ask where each charge appears, when it is paid and whether it is deducted, financed or included in repayments. Confirm currency rather than assuming every obligation is in pula. When a public page and written response differ, preserve both dates and ask which document governs the defined scenario. The shortlist remains incomplete until every material gap has either a dated answer or a deliberate stopping decision.
Remove only for a stated personal reason
An option may leave the shortlist because its verified channel is unusable, the currency creates unacceptable exposure, the full cost exceeds the household ceiling, essential information remains absent or identity cannot be resolved. Record the reason and date. Do not turn that removal into a public judgment about the institution. Display order, brand size, number of pages, branch count and response speed do not become points unless the borrower has defined and verified a relevant constraint. The decision is reversible if evidence changes. A personal shortlist helps one household organise work; it is not a league table and cannot establish the best provider for Botswana as a whole.
Test a normal month and a weaker month
Rebuild the complete cash flow from the written quotation. Separate net proceeds, each repayment, upfront deductions, recurring costs and later conditional payments. Place the schedule in a normal month, then reduce income or increase an essential expense in a plausible weaker month. Preserve food, housing, transport, health, education, existing obligations and a recovery reserve. This is the household's resilience check, not the bank's affordability method. If the weaker month fails, reduce the need, wait or remove the option even if the institution might approve it. Passing the test does not make the loan suitable; the final agreement and consequences of missed payments still require careful reading.
Keep a non-debt fallback beside the cards
Write at least one realistic alternative with its own timing and cost. It may be delaying the expense, reducing its scope, using savings that can safely be spent, arranging staged payment with the supplier or seeking support whose obligations are understood. A fallback is not automatically easy or free, but it gives the borrower a route when quotations are incomplete, expired or too fragile for the budget. It also reduces pressure to preserve a weak provider card merely so that the shortlist has a winner. Choosing the fallback or deciding not to act is a complete outcome. The method exists to protect a decision, not to ensure that borrowing occurs.
Recheck before contract review
On the decision date, verify the institution again, revisit the exact product page and confirm the quotation's validity. Compare principal, currency, duration, rate wording, fees, insurance, security and dates with the agreement and repayment schedule. Any change needs a fresh budget test. Keep the documents, observed dates, unresolved questions and reasons for removal securely. Private application documents should go only to a verified recipient for a stated purpose, never to Credizen. End with one of four statuses: proceed to contract review, request clarification, revise the scenario or stop. Do not record single winner, certain approval or expected disbursement because the evidence cannot support those claims.
